We are heartbroken over the tragic loss of Azjanae Brooks, a beloved ninth-grade student at Bellevue High School. Azjanae was a bright and caring member of our community, and her passing is an unimaginable tragedy. Her loss is deeply felt across the Bellevue School District, and we extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.
To Azjanea’s family—we grieve with you, and we are here for you. To our students and families—we are stronger together, and we will continue to support and protect one another. In times like these, we are reminded of the profound connections that bind us as a community. As a district, we stand in solidarity with her loved ones and offer our unwavering support.

Azjanae’s friends will forever remember her fun-loving spirit, kindness, and the way she made them feel in their time together at Bellevue High.

Azjanae was truly one of the most fun students to interact with. I will truly miss our banter, even in the moments that I had to fuss at her as one of the assistant principals here at Bellevue HS. Our interactions always ended in hugs, and I will never forget her outgoing spirit and sass! She made a lasting impression on us all here. My wishes for the family is that you find peace beyond all understanding during this difficult time. We know not the day or the hour, but what we do know is Azjanae's existence on this earth had purpose, and she has fulfilled her earthly duty. Rest peacefully sweety. I just know you are up in heaven and already know all the gossip and where the best snacks are!!!!!

There's so much love in my heart for Nae, I can't begin to express my sorrow for your loss. I've worked with lots of students over the years and Nae was truly special to me. She spent so much time in my office, sometimes to process difficult feelings, sometimes to share successes, and every time she entered the room she made it brighter. She was someone who never accepted the world as it was, always striving to make it better, and I was so excited to see how she'd impact the world in the future. It's so hard to accept a reality where her potential won't come to fruition, but I promise to keep her memory in my heart, and to honor her in my actions each day.

The passing of Azjanae has been difficult to comprehend. I was lucky enough to meet and work with Azjanae as one of her math teachers during her 8th grade year, at Chinook Middle School. Math was not her favorite subject in school and on those days when I was lucky enough to witness her contagious smile, it made my day. I always took it as a compliment that Azjanae would be willing to come to my tutorial and get help with math, even though it was difficult and not her favorite. She was a passionate young woman who was willing to stick up for others and she never backed down. A bright soul, gone too soon. My heart goes out to her family during this difficult time. Nae was a special student. Her strength, intelligence and sense of justice set her apart I and I feel privileged to have known her. He passing is huge loss. Nae dealt with a lot in her life but came to school each day ready to advocate for what she believed was right. Students like her remind me that we do not need to accept the limitations of our schools, but can, and should demand more. My condolences to Nae's friends and family. This is a truly unfathomable loss.
