Pauline was one of the kindest souls I have ever met. Her mother in law introduced us many years ago. Her mother in-law was my second mama, so if she liked you then you could feel love like no other, whether you were blood or not, so of course I fell in love with Pauline. I have thought of you many times. Now you are with Jesus Christ and all is well.

Edgar Mack Rakestraw, Jr.
Cousins John H, Demp(sey) (and Extended Families):
As you are more brother and nephew in fact to me than cousins, Pauline, was the equivalent of a sister-in-law. She was a welcomed, and much admired, addition to the family. Her unexpected transition is painful, but I can also take solace in having known her and in remembering the many wonderful conversations, holiday and birthday greetings and other family celebrations we all had over the years. Pauline and I had our last conversation during her first of the two most recent trips to Philadelphia when she called just to talk. And, as you may know, she and I were the senior family members (along with Jessica and the kids) at Demp’s mustering out of the military ceremony in San Bruno, CA several months ago.
I had called last Sunday afternoon - but she was talking to Tommie – to express condolences at the transition of her mother, Mrs. Chestnut. John, I could hear Pauline’s voice as she spoke to Tommie on cell, as we spoke by cell. I intended to call back later that evening but fell asleep. Naturally, John, when you unexpectedly called a few hour latter – early Monday a.m. -with news of her transition … and to discuss the dread of and how to tell Demp … Naturally, the conclusion was “immediately” … and you did.
I am observing CDC guidance about gatherings. And am not with you, Demp and the extended Tomblin and Chestnut families – this weekend - in person to physically say good-bye to Pauline and Mrs. Chestnut. I, however, am there in spirit and prayer. Pauline, wife, mother and grandmother, mother-in law- and affectionately, my in fact “sister-in-law”, and Mrs. Chestnut, will always be with us.
Finally, I want to see each member of the extended families at future families’ reunions, so “wash hands, mask up, social distance, and take COVID-19 vaccine now, and boosters., when available.
Respectfully,
Mack
